Information
The two parties have achieved a win-win situation in this cooperation, and we have laid the foundation for the further development of the commercial vehicle market in Asia: Knorr-Bremse is the world's leading manufacturer of commercial vehicle braking systems. Dongfeng Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (DETC) is a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. (DFG), China's largest truck manufacturer. The new company address is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, about 1,000 kilometers west of Shanghai. The joint venture employs almost 460 employees.

"We will maximally meet the growing customer needs of the Chinese commercial vehicle market and at the same time meet changing technical requirements." Klaus Deller, chairman of the Knorr-Bremse board of directors, explained. "Knall provided a wealth of product knowledge, while DETC brought in-depth market knowledge. We will continue to jointly develop brake technology in the Chinese market and expand joint ventures, and strive to become a leader in the commercial vehicle industry in the medium term. "Said Hinrich J. Woebcken, director of commercial vehicle systems for the Knorr-Bremse board. "The close cooperation will help us develop the market faster and more efficiently," added Xu Baoping, President of Knorr Commercial Vehicle Systems China.

In the beginning, the joint venture produced mechanical valve products and ABS systems. These include conventional brake valves, as well as pressure control valves. In the foreseeable future, the product range of complete braking systems will be expanded in various product areas of medium and heavy commercial vehicles. At that time, our products will cover air supply, brake control, transmission management and engine auxiliary brake components.

The main customer of the joint venture is Dongfeng Group. About 80% of the parts produced in Shiyan will be installed on vehicles produced by Dongfeng. In the next few years, Dongfeng Group will launch a large number of new commercial vehicle platforms in the market. "On this platform, the joint venture will be widely involved, and Knorr-Bremse will also benefit from it." Xu Baoping said. The joint venture not only produces mechanical brake components for the Dongfeng Group, but also produces electronic components specifically for the Chinese market. All existing DETC contracts will be continuously performed. Other Knorr-Bremse partners in China, such as Knorr-Kauf Commercial Vehicle Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd., will not be affected by the new cooperation.

"In order to ensure the high quality standards of Knorr-Bremse, we will implement the globally-used Knorr-Brems Production System (KPS) and QFMA quality system in joint ventures," explained Xia Fei, general manager of the joint venture. In this way, we adopt a unified process from the raw material processing supply chain to assembly and quality inspection, including the management of material supply through the introduction of modern logistics concepts.

Since the end of the 1970s, Knorr-Bremse has established links with China. Today, 13 production sites, including joint ventures, have been established in these two business areas. In 2014, Knorr-Bremse's 4,200 employees in China generated sales of 1.2 billion euros for the company.

In the field of commercial vehicle systems, Knorr-Bremse established the first joint venture in 2004 with Dalian and Dalian Innovative Parts Manufacturing Company, namely Hasse & Wrede CVS Dalian, China Ltd. . The subsidiary Knorr-Bremse Commercial Vehicle Brake System (Dalian) Co., Ltd. was established in 2005. Next, in 2011 Knorrkauf Commercial Vehicle Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. was established.

The Rail Vehicle System Division has also been actively expanding its business in China for many years. Its first major project in China was to provide a complete braking system for the Shanghai Metro in 1990. In the following years, the division gradually expanded its product portfolio to cover Door systems and air conditioning systems. Partnerships and trust relationships with local companies have long been an important part of Knorr's strategic approach.
